The Fritz B. Burns scholarship is awarded to IT students each year to help offset educational costs. To receive this scholarship students must meet the general requirements for any scholarship at BYU, as outlined in the undergraduate catalog (see General University Scholarship Policies). Additional requirements and policies are given below. Any exception to these requirements must be approved by the IT scholarship administrator.
Basis of Award:
Scholarship awards are intended to help students who indicate a strong potential to benefit the IT profession. Awards will be based on academic performance, need, and overall success in the major. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate involvement in the profession through professional societies (eg IEEE), previous experience and commitment. Financial need is also taken into consideration. GPA is only one of the factors considered although grants will only be made to students who indicate the capability to successfully complete the major.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the IT Burns scholarship you must have IT as your declared major during any semester or term you receive an award. And you must be enrolled in the proper courses in your major, as determined by an IT advisor of the scholarship administrator. If you change majors during any semester or term in which you receive an award you will be required to repay the award amount.
Awards:
Awards are made for a specific year, semester or term, and will be stated in your letter of award. You must reapply to continue receiving a scholarship for the designated period. Awards are typically given for 1/2 tuition, but may be more or less depending on circumstances such as funds available, previous awards, etc.
