Currently, 2006, accreditation guidelines and standards representing a body of knowledge and curriculum for Information Technology programs in the United States are under development through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and their Computer Accreditation Commission (CAC), see http://www.abet.org. Brigham Young University, IT program, is providing strong leadership at the national level to be on the cutting edge in the development of IT accrediting standards. 

Several faculty are participating at the national level to assist with the task of creating the curriculum that will define accreditation of IT programs. Faculty in the IT program have joined a coalition of schools that are introducing similar programs of IT curriculum to continue defining the terms of accreditation.
