Senior Capstone Projects

The Information Technology program has several ongoing research projects associated with both classroom and corporate collaboration. All students are required to participate in a senior capstone project in order to graduate.

The Gamer's Club

Students: Christopher Cole, Jared Erb, Michael Lowe, Andrew Mortensen, Caleb Slagle
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Chia-Chi Teng

The Gamer's Club designed and implemented a system for a pay to play Internet cafe that is similar to a LAN party. System customers would be able to log onto computers to play video games with other customers. The system would also allow for an emphasis on the social aspects of playing the game and offer the mosy popular PC video games.

ReligLaw

Students: David Kirk, Bridger Larsen, Dale Murri, Mrigesh Rajbhandari, Jason Wright

Religious freedom is among the most important and difficult global matters to address. The importance of documents pertaining to this topic is insurmountable and their value is equally important. The ReligLaw team designed a database and indexing system that captures, categorizes, and displays all legal documents, academic literature, and documents from international organizations, impacting religious freedoms gathered from all countries an in all languages in the world. The system was specifically designed for the International Center for Law and Religion Studeis (ICLRS)

Media Capture

Students: Jeff George, Wayne Hansen, Isaac Tobler, Brandon Robinson, Tyson Kearns
Sponsered By: J. Reuben Clark Law School

The Media Capture project addressed issues with a BYU Law school system used for recording and playingback role-playing exercises. The Media capture project designed a system that would be the center of the recording. The device allowed law students to set-up and configure the device completely within a matter of minutes to start recording their role-playing sessions. The successful completion of this device allowed students to focus on their tasks rather than on configuring and troubleshooting the technology used to accomplish their tasks.

Gears Systems Management

Students: Corey Shaw, Dan Aird, David George, Duston Hinton, Spencer Davis

Gears implemented all monitoring aspects of a data center along with documentation storage, which includes information about the servers and other network devices. Originally, server room/data center administrators had a lot of infomation about their devices and nowhere to document it. With this new system a server room can consolidate its administration to one application saving hundreds of hours.
