What is IT?
Information Technology is a technical discipline that solves problems using computing resources.
The IT program at BYU focuses on technology associated with interacting and interfacing with systems of services or applications using computers.
IT professionals from this discipline are competent in:
- Designing computing systems with due consideration of the performance and compatibility aspects of hardware, software and digital communications.
- Understanding user needs and communicating technical issues to the organizations and people affected by the computer system
- Visualizing structure and implement complex technical solutions.
What will I learn in the IT program?
What you learn in the IT program can be divided into three categories:
Foundation, Core, and Specialization.
The Foundation Coursework includes:
- Mathematics
- Science
- Digital Electronics
- Computer Hardware, Software, and Architecture
The Core subjects include:
- Networking
- Web Systems
- Programming
- Databases
- Human-Computer Interface
